Apple iPad 2 Review: The slimmest tablet of just 6.1 mm and the first from Apple to have a 2 GB RAM

Apple iPad is very thin, thinner than the gadget you own, thinner than a pencil, thinner than a magazine and it is very light. Other phones and tablet are also thin but this one leads in thinness

Design

What you will immediately notice when carrying the tablet is its amazing thinness and the shiny new Touch ID home button; it retains the core designs of the predecessor having 9.7-inch 1536 x 2048 pixels IPS LED-backlit display. The edges are still precision chamfered and the corners are rounded for better grip and feel, the back is flat but curved towards the edges. The bezels on all the four sides are not that slim but also not too wide, the top and bottom bezels are wider. Looking at how the controls are and the ease of accessing them, below the display is the Touch ID home button which is a stainless steel ring. Above the display is the 1.2 MP camera of 720p video recording with an aperture of f/2,2. The left hand side if it is in portrait, has no controls while on the right side there are volume rockers which are two metal buttons each in their own nest and they are easy to located. At the bottom is where the stereo speakers are located, the power button is on the top right, 3.55mm audio jack on the opposite corner. At the back is where the second microphone is and a 8 MP iSight camera

Display

iPad Air 2 has a 9.7-inch display which is fully laminated meaning the components, LCD, touch sensor and cover glass are molded into one and now have an antireflective coating that apple claims will make the screen very easy to read in extreme light.
The display is 2048 x 1536 pixels with a pixel density of 264ppi.

Connectivity

It has a much better connectivity due to the advancements done in radio and Wi-Fi chipsets. The Wi-Fi can support 802.11ac which is twice as fast as before with a speed of 856 Mbps. Can support SIM cards, Local Networks includes Bluetooth 4.0

Hardware and performance

iPad 2 has the best chip, 64-bit A8 dubbed the A8X, it is a triple core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz which is said to bring about 40 % improvement over than the old A7 chip and also brings a 2.5x improvement in graphic performance. For the first time Apple has given 2 GB RAM and runs with iOS 8. In CPU performance benchmarking. We tested on the Geekbench 3 and iPad air 2 managed to be at the top beating even HTC Nexus 9 by far, the chip A8x is very perfect and powerful very suitable for gaming. The results were, iPad air 2 was first scoring 4464, followed by Nexus 9 3470 and Nexus 6 came third with 3285 even in Basemark OS II CPU benchmark it was still at the top with 1937, Nexus 9 1890 then third was Nexus 6 1509. In graphics performance, it was still the best

Camera

The back camera is iSight 8 MP which gives the quality pictures having resolutions of 3264 x 2448 pixels with auto-focus and features 1.2um pixel size, geo tagging , touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR (photo/panorama) and is capable of 1080p@30fps, 720p@120fps video recording with HDR, stereo sound quality
The front camera is 1.2 MP, I know most of Android flagship phones have very powerful front facing camera, but for iPad air 2 has improved the front camera having an aperture of f2.2 which generally allows clearer Face time chats

Battery Life

Apple claims on the iPad Air 2’s battery life is 10 h which is the same as last year, it is not surprise many tablets and phones can last for 10 h or even longer

The good

Thinner than ever at 6.1 mm and lighter at 437g
 A Powerful hardware
TouchID fingerprint sensor
Comes with premium applications set for free, iMovie, Keynote etc
Have stereo speakers

The Bad

No microSD card slot
