With this being the last Nokia Lumia phone, I mean the one
having the Nokia banding, it was a very good goodbye for the Lumia, The Lumia
family will still continue with banding Microsoft, you saw that on Microsoft
Lumia 535. Nokia even made us proud by releasing their first android Tablet
Nokia N1. Lets have a look to Nokia Lumia 830 which will go for $443.97 which is affordable.
Design
Nokia Lumia is just like its counterpart Nokia Lumia 930,
The frame is pure Aluminum which almost all flagship phones have, it makes it
have the feel and 2.5D glass which first appeared in Nokia N9 and now is a
trend. The rear cover is made from matte plastic, which makes it grippy and
resistance to fingerprint smudges, that’s a useful feature. It is fitted with a
big 5-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 which doesn’t look good for
a flagship phone not matching its competitors; the pixel density is somehow
good 296ppi. Looking at the screen contrast is 1004:1 and the maximum
brightness reaches 371cd/m2 which means it won’t be easy reading it in bright
light like that of Sony’s flagship phone Xperia Z3. The whole screen is
protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which is scratch resistance but don’t
forget it’s not shatterproof.
Above the display there is 0/9 MP front camera for your
video calls, bellow the screen, capacitive keys sits which are as usual back,
start and search with the primary microphones pinhole is just below start keys.
The left side have nothing, the right side there are volume rocker, power lock
and camera shutter. At the top there is a centrally located 3.5 mm audio jack
which is next to the microUSB port and nothing is on the bottom with the loudspeaker
is located at the bottom of the back
The camera part is a round black plate with PureView and
ZEISS logos around making the phones general impressions look premium. The back
cover is removable hence replaceable. You can change the color of the original
back if you bored with the original color.
Connectivity
Nokia Lumia 830 comes with support of quad-band GSM, 3G and
LTE networks. The LTE is cat.4with download rate of 150Mbps . the local
networks are Wi-Fi, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS receiver with GLONASS support, NFC
connectivity which lets you share your files with other NFC enabled phones.
Hardware and performance
Nokia Lumia 830 is powered by quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex A-7
based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400, Adreno 305 GPU and 1 GB RAM running on
Windows 8.1. When we benchmarked the phone with other phones of almost the same
price and windows, according to Basemark OS II, it was in the middle scoring
478 which was very much lower than Lumia 930 which was second scoring 1067, at
the top was HTC One for Windows which scored 1114, that’s was defiantly due to
the Snapdragon 805 which is much outdated, When we tested using AnTuTu, it was
on the same place, 3rd scoring 12112, Lumia 930 second scoring much higher
26206 than HTC One for Windows was the first scoring 26394. The performance is generally good but we can’t
compare it with other top Android phones Like Xperia Z3.
It also features Cortana which premiered on Windows 8.1, I think
this the unique and helpful thing on the phone, Cortana is much similar to
Siri, it recognizes your voice commands and then responds with voice feedback,
it can remember places, important people to you, it can also actively promote
your quiet hour’s mode.
Camera
It comes with a 10 MP PureView shooter with Carl Zeiss lens.
Features also OIS for both images and video recording, The resulting snaps are of very high quality
due to Nokia camera UI which is renamed Lumia UI due to the change of the
branding, It performs well when capturing in bright light . It can also records
videos at 1080p@30fps, due to Camcoder UI, it will offer amazing videos. Front
camera is 0.9 MP, It is also the first time that PureView has made a phone in
this price range
Battery Life
Lumia 830 has a 2200mAh battery. With 48% battery remaining
without any power saving mode you can still get 35 hours left
Best features;
10 MP PureView camera with
1080p@30fps video recording, Carl Zeiss optics, OIS and 0.9 MP
front-facing camera with 720p video recording.
Free Offline lifetime voice guided navigation with Drive++
Wireless charging
15 GB free OneDrive storage.
The Bad
No headset included in the box.
720p screen is disappointing for a flagship phone
Final words
Nokia Lumia 830 is the last of its Kind, I mean having the
brand Nokia, it is still a proper closure of the epic band phone.
