The design of Meizu MX4 looks like Apples’ iPad Air,
actually it looks like a small iPad Air having even a round capacitive button
below the screen though it is not fingerprint scanner like that of iPad, the
edges are also chamfered like iPad Air, round edges have a plastic lining just
looks like an iPhone. The curved back makes it comfortable to hold, it also has
a metallic frame which slopes making it appear thinner and premium though it
doesn’t have metallic unibody like iPhone or HTC M8, the plastic back cover can’t
easily be noticed, available in white, gold and grey colors, and there is a
3,100mAh non-removable battery and a slot for micoSIM card. The phone has
almost no bezel on each side of the screen and it physically measures 144 x 75
x 8.9 mm weighing 147 g which is lighter for such a big phone.
MX4 features a 5.36-inch IPS LED display protected with
Corning Gorilla Glass 3, 1080p resolution and amazing pixels density of 418ppi.
It is also unique about its aspect ratio, a normal smartphone has a aspect
ratio of 16:9 while it, it has an aspect ratio of 5.3 and a resolution of 1920
x 1152 pixels which gives you a high quality videos and pictures or when playing
high graphics games. Looking at sunlight legibility, it is average, we can’t
compare it with other flagship phones like Sony Xperia Z3 or Nexus 6. The
contrast ratio is 1100:1 and backlight offers brightness of up-to 500 cd/m.
The front of the phone features a 5.36-inch display with a
round capacitive home button which you can power the screen just by holding it.
Above the screen there is a small earpiece and 2MP front facing camera on the
right of it, volume rocker is on the left, loudspeaker is on the bottom along
with microUSB port which is in the middle and also the main microphone. At the
top, there is another microphone for noise cancellation, power button and audio
jack, at the back there is a 20.7 MP camera with dual LED flash.
MX4 runs with Android v4.4.4 KitKat which they say will be
upgraded to the new android v5.0 Lollipop. On top of Android OS, there is
Custom made UI called Flyme 4.0 which let me say is what makes it looks like an
iPhone when operating it leaving a lone the design similarity. Looking at Flyme
OS, it offers a neat visuals and shatter free operations, it also ease the
hardship of having a larger display and what is awesome is that you don’t need
to necessarily power the phone using the power button at the top of the phone,
you can use the round capacitive home screen at the bottom of the screen.
The phone is powered by MadiaTek MT6595 Octa-core processor
that features four high powered Cortex-A17 cores clocked at 2.26 GHz and four low
powered Cortex-A7 clocked at 1.76 GHz having a graphic processor of PowerVR
G6200 and 2 GB RAM. The internal storage is 16/32/64 GB with no card slot.
Looking at the performance based on the CPU, MX4 performed well in CPU test,
according to GeekBench 3, it was at the top scoring 3556, followed by Samsung
Galaxy alpha which scored 3214, iPhone 6 came sixth scoring 2924. In AnTUTU
benchmark, it came second scoring 46922, Galaxy Alpha came first scoring 51905.
In GPU test it never performed well, it could leave the last or secons last
even though powered by a good GPU PowerVR.
The camera is 20.7 MP, just like that of the famous Sony
Xperia Z3iot has Sony Exmos Sensor capable of 5248 x 3936 pixels snaps which is
just like Xperia z3. It is capable for recording videos of 1080p@30fps.
720p@100fps and also capable for recording in slow motion. Front camera is 2 MP
1080@309fps.
The battery is 3100mAh non-removable which you can access,
so it is ashame to them that you can’t remove your battery, it has a stand-by
of up-to 520 hrs and endurance of up-to 89 hrs
