Sonim Technologies, maker of the military grade mobile phones, military grade meaning, the toughest can survive in harsh environments that others can’t survive has lunched Sonim XP7 which is the world’s most rugged LTE Smartphone. XP7 is expensive and currently available in Canada for about $655.
Design
It has a rubber brick that is 0.8-inch thick, weigh 290 grams which is isn’t light compared to other phones and physically measures 137 x 72.1 x 208 mm. The 4-inch display has a resolution of 800 x 480-pixels which is low resolution for that price. The display is fairly bright which makes it easier to see outside.
The phone looks indestructible, it is IP69 certified to protect against dust and up-to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes and IP69 certification for resistance to high-temperature pressure wash, meaning you can freely use it in strong storms like those of the oceans and if invisible for hurricanes you can use it without any fear of destruction. The display can recognize inputs from gloves even soaked muddy ones using the phones’ LED flashlight to look for guy lines that had been yanked free from their stakes. The controls are raised for easy operation using the gloves. The Front facing speakers are also great, they get pretty loud. The Volume control and a red emergency support button is on the right. The headphone jack is at the top hidden behind a flap, the bulging antenna is on the right corner which also houses the loud speaker, and is capped off with bright notification light that is easily visible in depths of camera bag. The phone also offers NFC connectivity.
Performance
It is powered by Qualcomm snapdragon 400, quad-core 1.2 GHz with 1 GB RAM which is average for playing games, the phone technically not designed playing games but for technically analysis in harsh environment and also for soldiers.
The camera is also very good 8-MP camera that sits on the rear of the phone, auto focus isn't so much sluggish but is generally good for the phone.
